Cremation is a form of disposition. It does not determine whether your family can gather, view, hold a funeral, create a memorial or choose a lasting place of remembrance.
A clear starting point
What cremation involves.
Cremation takes place after the required arrangements, authorizations and coordination have been completed. Wagg’s role is to bring those pieces together, explain the choices in plain language and help the family decide whether a gathering should take place before or after cremation.
The arrangement is documented in a written contract. Ontario’s Bereavement Authority publishes a Consumer Information Guide about funeral, burial and cremation choices and consumer rights.

Service pathways
Cremation can support different kinds of goodbyes.
Direct cremation
The cremation takes place without a preceding visitation or ceremony. A memorial or private gathering may still be arranged later.
Visitation followed by cremation
Family and friends may gather before cremation, with the structure, timing and viewing choices discussed during arrangements.
Funeral service followed by cremation
A funeral can take place at the funeral home, a church or another appropriate setting before cremation.
Memorial service after cremation
A service may be held after cremation, which can provide more flexibility for timing and travel.
Celebration of life
A less formal gathering can centre on stories, photographs, music, food and the interests of the person being remembered.
Private family farewell
Some families choose a quiet, limited gathering and a separate public remembrance at another time.

Urns range in material, size and style. A funeral director can explain which size and type suit the intended placement.
Keepsakes and jewellery
A small keepsake urn or memorial jewellery may hold a symbolic portion of cremated remains when that choice is appropriate for the family.
Cemetery interment
Cremated remains may be placed in a cemetery grave, niche or other permitted interment space, subject to the cemetery’s rules and charges.
Scattering
Scattering options depend on the location, permission and applicable rules. Confirm the plan with the property owner, cemetery or relevant authority before proceeding.
Home memorials
Some families keep an urn at home or create a personal place of remembrance. Consider who will be responsible for it over time.
Permanent remembrance
A marker, niche inscription, memorial donation or meaningful family ritual can provide a lasting point of connection.
